The amazing effects of Food on ADHD
A breakthrough in ADHD research: is ADHD an allergy and have we found the missing link? Children tell their story about the effects of a Restricted Elimination Diet (RED) on ADHD, at a Dutch medical congress. Until recently the cause of ADHD was mainly unknown, but now we may have established an important causal factor: scientific research into the effects of an RED on ADHD has convincingly shown that ordinary foods may be causal of ADHD. According to a recent publication in The Lancet (February 2011), the number of children with Food-Induced ADHD (FI-ADHD) may even amount up to 60%, the behavioural problems disappearing at home as well as at school. In children diagnosed FI-ADHD medication will no longer be necessary. Strikingly, comorbid oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) may disappear as well. In children showing clinically relevant behavioural improvements following a 5-week RED a hypersensitivity to food may be underlying the behavioural disorder. Consequently, showing ADHD or ODD when eating specific foods might be compared to getting eczema from strawberries or asthma from oranges. Consequently, in children with FI-ADHD a diet may be a healthy alternative for medication. For the record, this is not about colourings or sugar, on the contrary, all kinds of ordinary foods may be incriminated, like potatoes, fish, eggs, beef, grapes and many other foods: each child with FI-ADHD may react to different foods. At a medical congress in the Netherlands children with ADHD told a spellbound audience about their experiences with the RED, about how they felt when taking medication, and about the difficulties of having to follow a diet. Subtle Signs of Autism 0-7 years old
This video shows the subtle signs of autism from one child as he ages and his tremendous growth from years of therapy. Of course, I have not included other behaviors such as tantrums, lack of social engagement, fear of strangers, covering of the ears and hyper-focus of behaviors. Other than two word basic needs sentences, he only spoke in movie quotes until the age of 5. Those signs are obvious, however there are subtle signs that show themselves sometimes before the obvious behaviors present. The earlier a child is identified to need extra help the better the developmental outcome. We never used medication, and did exclusively behavioral intervention with my son. We did modify to a healthier diet, with difficulty, but a cleaner food diet helped his overall health.

The Biology of Behavior - Part 3: Testimonials - By Dianne Craft MA, CNHP
If your child is on medication for focus and attention issues you may be able to get them off Ritalin or reduce the dosage after following this program. http://diannecraft.org The Biology of Behavior by: Dianne Craft will teach you about the four learning gates that lead to learning. Visual, Writing, Auditory, Focus/Attention. If all of these learning gates are open learning is easy but if one is blocked then learning will take too much battery energy to learn and your child will struggle. Many issues that our children struggle with can be associated to problems caused by yeast and fungus in the gut. Your child could be struggling if they have had ear infections and were given antibiotics. Testimonials... 12 year old boy with anxiety attention, anger and allergy issues improves tremendously with Dianne Craft's easy vitamin supplement program. Boy improves focus, attitude and acne after using Dianne Craft's Biology of Behavior 3 month CD program The week by week vitamin supplement program almost always helps improve focus, attitude, anger, anxiety, mood, tummy problems even acne. If your child is on medication you may possibly be able to get your child off Ritalin or reduce the dosage after following this program.

~*Lyme Lyfe*~ Disability Causes me to Fail, *BUT* I am NOT a Failure
I've always been of the mindset that I would rather die than not be able to art. To me, art if life-life is art. Over time I drew the bone outline, over time I made the stencil, and over time I cut it out, so the creative part, really, is done. I just need a robot to follow the steps I have on paper to get to the completed product...which is better than a lot of my projects. A lot of them require art skill and art eyes to do thru-out. It's only hard for me. Old/young me woulda made a pair in every color by the days end. Clearly it wasn't meant to be cuz the leggings were sucky anyway. Do you guyz have miserable failures racked up that are solely due to lyme or disability? Lyme brain, too. I once totally forgot to lighten my hair before adding lavender dye cuz every ounce of brain was keeping track of standing, using things with my hands, and to a lesser extent not collapsing in pain....like way way before I had any inkling I had chronic lyme. I think getting ready just felt like SO much work I confused myself into thinking I'd done a lot more than I had...despite my hair being very obviously brown. I'll be correcting that fail very soon, cuz I'm dead~set on having lavender hair now, again, lol:D well I was dead set on it then(2007), but it was not all lavender ever :P

Child Therapy - Help My Child is Depressed!
http://www.NLP4Kids.org Find out more about NLP4Kids and our work with children, teenagers and young people or how you can get free NLP practitioner training when you join our team! For more info visit our website - http://www.NLP4Kids.org Child Therapy - Help My Child is Depressed! In the world of child therapy it is now being recognised that more children are suffering from moderate mental health issues in the UK than ever before and the numbers are on the rise. There may be a number of factors that are contributing to this. For example, children have access to far more resources, gadgets and gizmos than ever before. You would think that this rich living would increase happiness but many of these things cause them to compare what they haven't got against what others have. Every new gadget is quickly replaced by the manufacturers with a new and improved gadget. In these circumstances it's a challenge to ever feel fully satisfied. Family dynamics have changed too compared to say 50 years ago. Life was very different then with children in larger families, able to play outside with a feeling of safety with everyone sitting and eating together later on. For many children, there is an abundance of information available to them. Schools are making exams more difficult as pupils become brighter. As their world become more intellectual and academic, there is little time left to educate them on emotional intelligence or well being. Child therapy and the work that we do is now as crucial as ever. Quite simply, some children are depressed because: - They haven't been taught how to manage negative emotions and how to overcome them. - They haven't been taught how to quickly access positive resourceful emotions - They do not feel in control of their emotions because they are not taught about how to take responsibility for their thoughts and feelings. One of the challenges with children who are depressed is that they may not have the language or communication skills to express their feelings. They may not have any concept of what "depressed" means. So the childs behaviour will be the biggest insight into what is going on for them internally. If a child is overreacting to small problems, frequently tearful and sad, moody most of the time and/or complains of feeling unloved or feeling like an outsider in their home, then they could be suffering from depression. Ensuring that children and young people (it's never too late, not even for teenagers!) get an opportunity to talk honestly about their feelings and are given reasonable time to discuss their worries is a great first step. By being listened to, they are also learning the skill to listen and to be respectful of others emotions. Learning techniques such as those within NLP -- anchoring and positive beliefs can help with state management. Giving young people a facility to manage their emotions also begins to teach them unconsciously that they can chose their emotions instead of being at the mercy of them. It means they can begin to learn about taking responsibility too for the reactions towards others. When this is done early on, communication can be much simpler. With teenagers, engagement in these activities can be a challenge especially for parents who are often the people that have the least amount of communication with their child. In this instance learning these valuable skills from role models such as a teacher, football coach or other respected figure in their life can be incredibly valuable. This is NOT autism: Lorna Ortiz at TEDxSugarLand
Note from TED: We've flagged this talk, which was filmed at an independent TEDx event, because it appears to fall outside TEDx's curatorial guidelines. Its accounts of the causes and treatments for autism, that it is caused by a virus and treatable by drinking bleach, for instance, would not be considered credible by most scientists. The guidelines we give our TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/tedxcontentguidelines.pdf __________________________________________________________________________ Dr. Lorna Ortiz has completed a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico and a PhD. in Chemical Engineering specializing in Environmental Catalysis from the University of South Carolina. She joined Shell in 2005 to work in catalysis R&D and worked in the area of biofuels process development. In 2010 joined the GameChanger Team at Shell, specializing in revolutionary innovation and serves as the Global Coordinator for the Shell GameChanger Hunters network. Outside Shell, Lorna Ortiz is the president and co-founder of a non-profit organization called Curando el Autismo (CEA). CEA focuses in educating Hispanics parents and professionals on the treatments that have been successful in the recovery of children diagnosed with "autism". Lorna and her husband Dr. Herie Soto have dedicated the last 5 years in the research for immune dysfunctions and its relationship with "autism" and in the treatment of their son Herie. Not so trivial pursuits: Health & Happiness
"Something that I can confess... Got no shame. Got no family I can blame." -OneRepublic, 'Secrets' . . . In another vid, I describe my auditory hallucinations as "Déjà entendu" and as "Déjà vu": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_TTXbWD7AA Greek physician Hippocrates said, "Let food be thy medicine, and thy medicine be thy food." Was my illness "mental"? No -and- Yes; in that order. Wouldn't you be distressed by the profound impact that undiagnosed illness has on your social life & your sanity? No one knew what was going wrong, least of all myself- even though it was happening directly to me. I was a child when all of this began; Who could expect me to know that my depressive episodes weren't normal? My greatest fear was that if I tried to explain my "déjà vu" episodes of auditory hallucination followed by panic attack I would be medicated for life, and /or sent away from my loved ones. I WAS SCARED! To prevent those frightening possibilities, I thought I had to handle my disorienting descent into episodes of depression & psychosis alone. The older I became, the more I isolated myself from others to protect myself -and them- from my condition; it's obvious that collateral damage was done. Increasingly, my physiological depression manifested as a psychological depression. Do you realize the stress inflicted by an illness upon a developing brain, while also emotionally suffering from the loss of friendships? I felt unable to halt the downward spiral. The phrase, "mental illness" is a misnomer which can easily mislead a person into believing that a human being can simply think their way into and out of it. Honestly, thinking doesn't solve everything- it's merely one [important] part of a far more holistic process of healing. Changing major aspects of your lifestyle will allow your entire body to physically heal and thrive, rather than merely survive. My symptoms have been -and are- of illness which, in my case, is: biological, physiological, immunological in origin- the course of which has fortunately been reversed through nutritional therapy. Is my epigenome to blame? At this time, I don't have any personal genetic test results to verify that with 100% certainty, though I do seek that certainty. "Genomic and Epigenomic Instability, Fragile Sites, Schizophrenia and Autism" 2010 Sept. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3018726/ "Gastrointestinal inflammation and immune activation in schizophrenia" 2012 April 2 http://questioning-answers.blogspot.com/2012/04/gastrointestinal-inflammation-and.html?m=1 I've read many research studies and articles on the genetic overlap of neuropsychiatric illnesses, though it's exhausting and presents me with new words to learn and concepts to make an effort to understand. Learning gives me hope, and I've found out that it strengthens my health and mind! http://discovermagazine.com/2013/march/18-immunity-intelligence I'm not a victim. For a very long time, I was angry because I thought that I had no choice. It's true that I didn't choose depression, psychosis, anxiety, nor alienation from people who didn't understand what I was dealing with. I chose none of that. However, once I realized that I do have a choice -every day of my life- to overcome adversity in every and any way realistically possible, the course of my life changed. I changed- or, as I prefer to say, I began to undo the changes in my health that had hidden my true self. I wasn't the distorted version of me that most people witnessed, judged, and dismissed. Not only was my condition distorting my perception, it was also distorting the perceptions of people who encountered me, altering me from who I AM; these realizations empowered me. Thought is powerful, yes- but, several years of nutritional changes are what allowed me to arrive at that point of discovery & personal insight. Though the hallucinations had been absent for a decade, I had been symptomatic most of my life and I continued to endure other symptoms. I finally asserted that I could "fix myself" once I accepted that it is realistically possible for me to- if I would just begin to progressively teach myself how. Thanks to knowledge, I feel less fear. What will you choose, for yourself? I urge you to choose life. I urge you to choose health. I urge you to choose happiness. It's not a simple matter of thinking your way out of problems; You must be willing to learn. You must be willing to try treatment(s) that you feel comfortable with, and keep seeking what works optimally for you. You will benefit from a support system of people who accept you, care about you, love you for who you actually are- people you trust, who believe in your ability to recover, who help you every day to do so. I wish for you the courage to follow through. I wish for you the confidence to know that it's possible to live a life of health and happiness. I've consciously put myself on a dedicated path; I know that I can and will achieve and maintain recovery.

Treatment Failure? Consider this short, important video playlist: *3 Basic ADHD Medication Challenges* http://corepsych.com/basic-3 Remember this: Prozac and Paxil both significantly block the pathway for the metabolism of Adderall IR and all the amphetamine products for ADHD treatment including Vyvanse, Dexedrine, and Adderall XR. If you take either of these two antidepressants together with an amphetamine, watch out. You can significantly become overdosed on the amphetamine through drug interactions. Often the interaction can unpredictably occur several months later. The patient becomes toxic to the amphetamine, angry, irrational, can't sleep, can't eat, or can become dangerously destructive - even psychotic. The Adderall/Vyvanse/amphetamine often gets blamed. The Prozac and the Paxil are the problems due to inhibiting the metabolism. This specific pathway interaction is relevant also for Concerta and MPH [methylphenidate] products blocking 2D6 when taken with AMP [amphetamine] products. - Should not mix these two. See "Drug Interaction Principles for Medical Practice," Wynn, Cozza, Armstrong, et al. for details. The Autism test, AQ Test and information
Check out my new blog: http://adultswithautism.org.uk/?page_id=6 Here is the link to the AQ test. Which is the Autism test I talk about in this video http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/9.12/aqtest.html Here is the link to the eq test (empathy quotient test) http://glennrowe.net/BaronCohen/EmpathyQuotient/EmpathyQuotient.aspx On the EQ test a lower score takes you towards autism and a high score takes you towards Neurotypical (not autistic) Autism/Aspergers syndrome is a developmental disorder. Autistic children grow up to be Autistic adults. Some people think "how can you be autistic, you are nothing like Rain man" well most of us on the Autistic spectrum are not exactly like him Although I do now Autistic people that share some of his ability to remember important dates and huge amounts of facts and data that can be recited instantaneously. Autistic symptoms are based around the central Autistic diagnosis criteria called the "Triad of Impairments" This encompasses a) Social and emotional difficulties b) Language and communication difficulties c) Flexibility of thought (imagination) Recognising the Triad of Impairments in my experience is just the starting point, and as many people affected by Autism will tell you, Autistic spectrum disorder can be a hugely complicated condition to understand. And even though there are common symptoms that Autistic people may share, Not everyone with Autism display all the symptoms all the time. Then when you add in other factors such as personality trait's enviromental factors and co-existing conditions then trying to find a "one approach fits all" mentality to working with Autistic people is not going to work. I sometimes think that everyone on the Autistic spectrum is practically a sub category in themselves. Steve

Autism: Sensory Overload Simulation
To all other people who say is this isn't what it's like because it's not identical to YOUR specific experience: Of course it's not going to be like your experience, because it's MY experience and *gasp* my experience will probably be different than yours! All life experiences are subjective to the person having the experience. This simulates what a trip to a store like Walmart can be like for me on a "bad" day. It's an excerpt from my "Inside Autism" documentary, which you can find here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6k7vFI30yg

Yoga reduces stress : This is How
http://www.melissawest.com/yoga-reduces-stress-and-now-there-is-scientific-evidence-to-back-it-up-and-tell-us-why For details visit the link above Yoga reduces stress and now there is scientific evidence to back it up and tell us why! This is another good news post! This came to me from my friend Judy Krings from E-mail. Yoga reduces stress and now there is scientific evidence to back it up and tell us why! This was a study done at UCLA to see if yoga reduced the stress of people who care for those who suffer from Alzheimers and dementia. In the study, the participants were randomized into two groups. The meditation group was taught the 12-minute yogic practice that included Kirtan Kriya, which was performed every day at the same time for eight weeks. The other group was asked to relax in a quiet place with their eyes closed while listening to instrumental music on a relaxation CD, also for 12 minutes daily for eight weeks. Blood samples were taken at the beginning of the study and again at the end of the eight weeks. "The goal of the study was to determine if meditation might alter the activity of inflammatory and antiviral proteins that shape immune cell gene expression," said Lavretsky. "Our analysis showed a reduced activity of those proteins linked directly to increased inflammation. Reporting in the current online edition of the journal Psychoneuroendocrinology, Dr. Helen Lavretsky, senior author and a professor of psychiatry at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, and colleagues found in their work with 45 family dementia caregivers that 68 of their genes responded differently after Kirtan Kriya Meditation (KKM), resulting in reduced inflammation. As previously reported, practicing a certain form of chanting yogic meditation for just 12 minutes daily for eight weeks led to a reduction in the biological mechanisms responsible for an increase in the immune systemapos;s inflammation response. Inflammation, if constantly activated, can contribute to a multitude of chronic health problems. This is good news! :) This study showed a reduction in the biological mechanisms responsible for an increase in the immune system?s inflammation response. Denver Acupuncturist - Acupuncture & PTSD - Dr. Mark Carney - Denver, CO 80224
Your Healing Place Denver - http://www.yourhealingplace.com - 303.636.0000 Healing With Acupuncture with Dr. Mark Carney: Acupuncture & PTSD Hi, I'm Dr. Mark Carney. I'm a naturopathic doctor and an acupuncturist with a family practice in Denver, Colorado called Your Healing Place. People often ask, "What is acupuncture?" Acupuncture is one part of Chinese medicine. Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years. Acupuncture is based on the concept of Qi and Qi means energy. The Qi is flowing through our body in rivers that are called meridians in Chinese medicine. Basically, what acupuncture is doing is inserting needles at different points of these meridians to flip open and closed valves to regulate the flow of the energy of the Qi. The acupuncture needles are so tiny that they are bendable. They are almost the thickness of a human hair. So that's acupuncture. Let's talk about PTSD, otherwise known as post-traumatic stress disorder. PTSD is a very common condition that occurs after somebody has experienced an emotional or a physical stressor that is beyond their ability to cope. It used to be known as shell-shock and was specific only to Veterans of wars. Now, PTSD can even occur after a car accident. What usually happens for someone who has PTSD is that another trigger will mimic the event that originally caused the trauma. For example, if it was a Veteran in a war, if someone's car backfires, they suddenly think they are back on the battlefield. Acupuncture can help people with PTSD because number one, acupuncture is very relaxing, and number two, acupuncture has the ability to retrain the nervous system in such a way that the original trauma is no longer a trigger. If you or a loved one is suffering from this condition, then I strongly encourage you to contact our office because we have had amazing success helping people who have this condition.
