You need a Library card and you're all set. It sure beats opening up Chilton books at a parts store then having to pay for it because you did. Best of all you can do this all at home. A MUST FOR HOME MECHANICS! Direct link: http://www.anythinklibraries.org/24-7-library

Web based auto repair manuals

Sometimes to get the job done you need the help of a website http://www.fixmyoldride.com/sensor-and-car-computer-problems.html or auto repair manual. Here is a Demo of the Web based version of the Mitchell 1 service manuals. I shot this screen capture video using a common water pump replacement on a Chevrolet S10 to highlight some useful features included with this subscription service.

Inside My Odyssey Transmission - EricTheCarGuy

Inside My Odyssey Transmission - EricTheCarGuy http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ I would hardly call this video complete but you did ask me to make it for you. As of this writing the transmission is shifting fine however the light for the TCC came up and I haven't had time to look into that yet. It's funny though since it does appear to be working fine, it might be a loose connection or some other issue but like I said I haven't had the time lately. Perhaps I'll do an update video with what I find. I guess the big question would be if I would do this again and I would say that I might, but only on my car not someone else's, it's a lot of work to get one of these out without a lift or other useful equipment like a transmission jack. Anyway enjoy the insides of a Honda automatic transmission as I'm sure you won't see it often. --- Click below and Stay Dirty Visit me at EricTheCarGuy.com http://ericthecarguy.com/ Visit EricTheCarGuy Forum http://www.ericthecarguy.com/forum/default.aspx Visit my Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/EricTheCarGuy --- Stay dirty ETCG Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, it cannot guarantee against unauthorized modifications of this information, or improper use of this information.  EricTheCarGuy assumes no liability for property damage or injury incurred as a result of any of the information contained in this video. EricTheCarGuy recommends safe practices when working with power tools, automotive lifts, lifting tools, jack stands, electrical equipment, blunt instruments, chemicals, lubricants, or any other tools or equipment seen or implied in this video.  Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, no information contained in this video shall create any express or implied warranty or guarantee of any particular result.  Any injury, damage or loss that may result from improper use of these tools, equipment, or the information contained in this video is the sole responsibility of the user and not EricTheCarGuy.

Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ I knew the original video would spark discussion and apparently it's caused quite a stir over at iATN. I also felt that some of what I said in the last video needed clarification. For those reasons I've made this Re: video. That said I think it's an interesting topic and I look forward to your responses as I'm sure many of you have plenty to say on the subject, I'm already thinking about the Re: video to go with this. Electrical Troubleshooting Basics - EricTheCarGuy I get a lot of questions regarding electrical issues so when this 1994 Geo came in I thought it might be a perfect opportunity to show some of the basic steps that I follow when confronted with an electrical problem. Keep in mind that electrical problems come in all shapes and sizes so there really is no 'magic bullet' here but if you follow a basic procedure like the one shown in this video it might help you find and repair the problem. Modified Cars, a Technicians Point of View

15:32
I was actually asked this question over at the forum the other week by georgelv1999. It seemed like a great idea for an ETCG1 video, Modifying Cars, a Technicians Point of View. Keep in mind that I actually thing that modified cars are cool, I just don't like to work on them as a technician. In many ways I feel like, if you made the mess, you can clean it up. It's always difficult to work on something that someone else has worked on. It's even more difficult to work on something that's been modified by someone else. You just don't know what they did or how they didi it. I look forward to the discussion on this one. In fact, here's some useful links to that end that were mentioned in the video. How to Spot and Service a Stuck Rear Caliper - EricTheCarGuy

Visit me at http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ During the used car inspection that I did on my Subaru I found evidence that the rear calipers weren't doing their job so I decided to make this video of how I handled the situation. It's been about a month since I shot this video and even though I didn't machine the rotors they are actually much better than they were, I don't hear any noise and the car stops fine so you may also be able to get away without machining the rotors.

Solving Engine Performance Issues (Part 1) - EricTheCarGuy

My main point here is that if you have a performance problem and you're going to throw parts at the problem start with the basics before you to off and start replacing sensors that you suspect are a problem, if you don't have evidence of a faulty sensor then don't start there start with the simple tune up items and check for vacuum leaks and air leaks as I've shown here and I believe you'll have better results and save yourself some money in the process. In short the rule of KISS applies, Keep It Simple Stupid. ETCG's Air Tools and Compressor

12:48
Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ I get asked about my air tools and compressor ALL the time so even though I've made a video about my tool boxes I thought I would make a video JUST about my air tools and compressor. One of the most popular of those questions is, "What kind of compressor should I get?", as far as kind that's up to you and what you can afford but I think this 26 gallon is perfect for the DIY. As for the air tools well I used mine every day so I bought the best I could get at the time but consider how you're going to use the tools, if it's just on weekends for your own projects I don't think you need to spend as much to get results that will work for you. I also cover a bit of compressor maintenance as well as air tool maintenance which you might also find useful. How To Replace Brake Fluid by Yourself - EricTheCarGuy

15:11
As I said in the video I've been asked about this video for some time and I was happy to get the opportunity to make it. Now that I think about it however I did not address ABS systems in this video however the Subaru used does have ABS. For the most part, you can replace the brake fluid and not have to worry about the ABS, however in some cases you might need to bleed the system with a scan tool in order to get the brakes to work properly. Be sure to check the service manual of the vehicle you're working on before committing to bleeding at the wheels. If you're just removing the fluid in the master cylinder, you should not have to worry about the ABS at all. If you're having brake problems, check out this article I wrote on handling brake problems: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/faq/solving-brake-problems The best place for answers to your automotive questions: http://www.ericthecarguy.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/EricTheCarGuy?fref=ts Twitter: https://twitter.com/EricTheCarGuy Google+: https://plus.google.com/100195180196698058780/posts Information on Premium Membership: https://www.ericthecarguy.com/premium-content-streaming-etcg-content Stay Dirty ETCG Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, it cannot guarantee against unauthorized modifications of this information, or improper use of this information.

With a large investment in tools and school and a declining income potential how can we expect new people to enter the field of auto repair? It's an interesting question and I don't believe I have an answer at the moment so I put it to you viewers, what do you think we should do about this situation? We can just give up and stop what we're doing but perhaps we can come up with a plan for the future to help ensure quality auto repair well into the future. I look forward to your comments. How To Perform a Parasitic Draw Test - EricTheCarGuy

16:51
http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ This video has been a long timing coming and is one of the most requested things I get is about batteries going dead overnight so I'm very happy to finally bring you this video about the process of finding a parasitic draw which is a small drain on a battery above 50ma when the vehicle is shut off. Once you find the right fuse(s) the next step is to trace the components involved in that circuit till you find the source of the draw, you first start with a wiring diagram to give you an idea of where to start looking and then start unplugging things in that circuit to isolate the cause, it's quite scientific really a simple process of elimination. Here is a link to BBB's site that you can use to look up wiring diagrams for your application. http://www.bbbind.com/tech_database.html Good luck and if you have anymore questions check the database on my website and if you don't find what you're looking for there then post your question to my forum, here's a link. http://www.ericthecarguy.com/forum/default.aspx --- Click below and Stay Dirty Visit me at EricTheCarGuy.com http://ericthecarguy.com/ Visit EricTheCarGuy Forum http://www.ericthecarguy.com/forum/default.aspx Visit my Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/EricTheCarGuy --- Be safe, have fun, and stay dirty ETCG Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, it cannot guarantee against unauthorized modifications of this information, or improper use of this information.

Torque Converters Explained -EricTheCarGuy

19:59
Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ In this video I cover the purpose and operation of the turbine, stator, impeller, and torque converter clutch. I hope the explanation and practical give you some insight into how these parts work to not only transfer power from the engine to the transmission, but also how it drives the transmission pump and doubles the torque output of the engine when you take off from a dead stop. I've wanted to make this video for some time. In fact I've had the fans sitting in the back of the shop for almost a year. Now that I have the Automatic Transmission Dissection video under my belt I thought I would add a torque converter dissection into the mix. How To Fix a Spongy Brake Pedal Chevy Truck

In truth, this is a video about how to replace and bleed a master cylinder on a C1500, 1990 5.7L to be specific. Micro-start XP-1 Review -EricTheCarGuy

08:53
Microstart XP-1 $159.95 Link to product: http://www.motorfiend.com/antigravity-batteries-c-7656.html I'd been considering getting a jump box for the shop for a while now and Motorfiend sent me this Micro-start XP-1 to try. I was actually able to use it on a car with a dead battery before I made this video and it worked great. In case you were wondering it was a 3.5L V6. As you'll see in the video it has no trouble starting my Ford multiple times. I suppose I could have run the test until the battery actually died, but for me, if it starts once that's all I need. That said, I wasn't as impressed with the other attachments and hook ups. For me, they're practically useless. Given that, I could just put the Micro-start and battery cables in my glove box and have a jump box whenever I need it. In fact what I've done is put it in my 'emergency box' with the Slime inflator. Now if I get a flat or have a dead battery I'm prepared. Tool reviews posted every other Wednesday. How To Mount and Balance A Tire -EricTheCarGuy

12:51
Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ I often get asked how to mount and balance a tire with tools at home and the truth is that's WAYYY too hard. It's much better and easier to use the equipment that was designed for it. In this video I show exactly that, how to use the proper equipment to mount and balance a tire. It's not terribly exciting but I do show some things that are necessary when performing this work on an aluminum wheel. You MUST clean the bead area before you mount a new tire onto an aluminum wheel or else it will forever leak at the bead. I say this because all too often I see a tire that leaks air that's just been installed where the rim was not cleaned. Enough of my soap box. Also this video only covers the 'basic' tire mount and balance. When it comes to low profile or large tires it's a bit more complicated. As far as tires go these are pretty easy and straightforward. I'd like to thank my friend Scott Armstrong for his assistance and for letting us film in his garage. If you're in the Cincinnati area and looking for auto repair work I suggest you contact him as he's a heck of a mechanic.
