Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ I knew the original video would spark discussion and apparently it's caused quite a stir over at iATN. I also felt that some of what I said in the last video needed clarification. For those reasons I've made this Re: video. I'm not going to claim to be an expert on oil, I'm just speaking from personal experience. I still don't think I'm done with this topic and I invite any 'experts' who wish to express their opinions on this topic to join me in the next video(s). Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ Honda article: http://blog.caranddriver.com/why-honda-is-in-even-more-trouble-than-you-think-deep-thoughts/ The Labor Shift: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhXy1oHY_NA I'm pretty sure this one is going to draw some fire but I was asked and I've taken some time to respond in kind, in fact this is take 3 of this video, the first take I liked but then I read the Honda article and thought it really fit with the topic so I rerecorded it with some of that article included unfortunately there were technical issues and that video was scrapped so I then taped this one so by the time I got to it I'd already covered this material 3 times. That said I think it's an interesting topic and I look forward to your responses as I'm sure many of you have plenty to say on the subject, I'm already thinking about the Re: video to go with this. A Day At The Shop With EricTheCarGuy

37:52
I've had a long standing request to put a webcam in the shop so that viewers can see what goes on in my shop on a work day. I couldn't work that out, but I asked Cameraman Brian to follow me around for a day to document whatever he sees. I also told him he could edit the video. In short, I gave Brian creative license to follow me around in the shop for a day and create a video of what he saw. This is the video he came up with. I hope it satisfies the request for a shop day in the life of EricTheCarGuy. Camera: Brian Kast Editing: Brian Kast, Eric Cook Thanks for watching. 13 Car Buying Mistakes - How Auto Dealerships rip you off - How to buy a Vehicle from a Car Dealer

08:00
SUBSCRIBE HERE!! https://www.youtube.com/kevinhunter7 How do you buy a car from a dealership, with cash, with no credit, with bad credit? Here are the best car buying tips available today! See our latest video "TOP 10 Tips to get the BEST CAR DEAL" (10 best car buying tips / advice) at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lik6d0mcNp4 Are you a savvy car shopper who needs a little car buying advice? Kevin Hunter hosts "The Business Forum Show" outlines the 13 car mistakes to avoid making at the dealership. See the new video on "Getting Pre-Approved on Car Loans!" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KSmB3HE90E CATEGORIES: car, truck, suv, auto, used cars, autos, mechanic, automobile, vehicle, dealer, automotive news, auto shop, warranty. People in the car business who profit from your mistakes by taking advantage of you will rant about things we share here and disagree with the content, but don't be fooled by their rhetoric. A dishonest car salesperson absolutely loves an ignorant car shopper. We will try to help you avoid the common mistakes, and assist you in sorting the facts from the baloney in this business. We profit nothing regardless of what you choose to do, and we don't mind if you choose to not use the information. If you do, you'll find yourself walking away with a much better car deal. If you don't, you don't have much room to complain when this stuff happens. How do Car Dealers rip you off? This video presents 13 different car buying mistakes that you can't afford to make when car shopping. If you're going to car shop and don't want to be taken advantage of, it's up to you to learn about car salesmen and auto dealerships, and the dirty tricks they play to rip people off. You also need to learn about the scams and inappropriate products sold by both new and used car dealers, and why some things dealers offer should NEVER be purchased. These include things like the theft protection scam, GAP insurance that is sold to consumers who either didn't need it, or could have purchased much cheaper from their own insurance agent, and extended warranties that are often sold to buyers who didn't want them or need them. To make matters worse, there are also thousands of car dealers who employ finance officers that are some of the most unscrupulous people you'll ever meet, willing to tell you any lie they can come up with to sell you everything I've described, and more. The worst ones will even claim your interest rate on your loan is only available if you buy all the added products they are proposing. They claim the 'bank' wants the car protected.... which is BS... On the contrary, the bank wants your loan as small as possible so if they need to repossess the car, they can get their money out of it. This video was published to help you discover how you can save time and money on your next new or used car purchase by doing your homework first, and then going car shopping as an informed buyer. Is it unreasonable to expect a little old-fashioned honesty? We don't think so, but we are more than amused by the countless car salespeople or car dealers who contact us and state that we are making a 'small problem' sound far worse than it is. They also tell us the entire video is completely fabricated baloney. Really? Are you kidding us? We know there are honest people in the car business, and we receive positive comments from many of them, but it's definitely a buyer beware world out on the car lot! For all of you car buyers who are well steeped in reality, if you watched the video "Confessions of a car dealers backroom" you need to see this video. By understanding what mistakes to avoid, you'll not only become a smarter car buyer, but you'll also better understand what not to tell a car dealer when buying a car. It's true that you can play all your cards up front with an honest dealer, but unfortunately, they represent the minority of dealer owners (truly transparent and honest dealers make up about 40% of all dealers), and you are unlikely to know the difference until it's far too late. Be smart, do your homework, and you'll come home with a car deal that's good for you and the dealer. After all, that's what fairness is all about. We don't endorse anyone being ripped off, and that includes some customers who think it's 'justice' to turn tables and try to 'steal' a car from a dealer. If you do stuff like this, that makes you a crook too, doesn't it? When a car dealer loses money on a deal, they just take it from the next unsuspecting person. We don't think your neighbor should have to pay for your car, so we encourage you to be fair and honest. Everything we talk about has to do with fairness and honesty, and that works both ways. Respect the dealers right to make money in your quest to get a fair and honest car deal. It's this kind of attitude by car dealers and consumers alike that will change the car business. The Secret to a Quiet Ride

08:58
Want to know a secret about making your vehicle ride quiet and smooth? Watch this video! I have often said that tires are the most important purchase for your vehicle. In fact, I made this video "The Most Important Purchase for Your Vehicle": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bW2Tw3pJFqQ&t=3s Tires contribute so much to the ride quality of your vehicle, including how noisy it is. In this video I explore that aspect of tires by changing out 2 different types of tires on my 2001 Acura Integra GSR. I measure the db of both tires and you might be surprised at the difference a set of tires makes. There's also an added bonus in this video about tire temperatures that I think you'll find interesting as well. Modified Cars, a Technicians Point of View

15:32
I was actually asked this question over at the forum the other week by georgelv1999. It seemed like a great idea for an ETCG1 video, Modifying Cars, a Technicians Point of View. Keep in mind that I actually thing that modified cars are cool, I just don't like to work on them as a technician. In many ways I feel like, if you made the mess, you can clean it up. It's always difficult to work on something that someone else has worked on. It's even more difficult to work on something that's been modified by someone else. You just don't know what they did or how they didi it. I look forward to the discussion on this one. In fact, here's some useful links to that end that were mentioned in the video. 5 Reasons You Shouldn't Buy A Manual Transmission Car

5 Reasons Automatics Are Better Than Manual Transmission Cars 5 Things To Never Do In A Manual - https://youtu.be/_cbZlhduYJY Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 EE Shirts! - http://bit.ly/2BHsiuo Recommended Books & Car Products - http://amzn.to/2BrekJm The manual transmission is without a doubt one of the greatest inventions of modern history. That said, it's certainly not without flaws. Manual transmissions use a clutch instead of a torque converter like automatics, in order to create a coupling between the engine and the transmission. You might be surprised to find out that this actually results in lower wheel torque than an automatic. Additionally, manual transmissions shift differently than automatics, and this also leads to additional complications. While providing more control to the driver is generally a benefit, allowing a computer to take control can often lead to less mistakes. Check out the video for five major advantages of automatics over manual transmissions, which may impact your next buying decision. So if you're about to go into the winter season perhaps this video will help you with ideas on what you should do to your vehicle before the snow flies. I took a slightly different approach with this one in that I reached out to my viewers and asked them about what THEY do when they winterize their vehicles and incorporated many of their suggestions into this video. Even so, I'm sure there will be other good suggestions and I would urge you to either post them in the comments below or even better post them to the forum link above. Either way your comments and suggestions are welcome. Enjoy the video. How To Install a Windshield the "Right" Way -EricTheCarGuy

35:23
The windshield on my 2004 Honda Element has been cracked for years. After last winter the crack had reached half way across and I decided it was time to do something about it. It just so happens Kyle Kiss, son of Rich Kiss of Kiss auto glass, is a fan of my show. He stopped by the shop one day with his dad and I asked if they would be interested in making a video about replacing the windshield on my Element. The rest is in the video. I know a little about replacing windshields, Rich knows a LOT. I learned quite a bit making this video. I hope you do too. A special thanks to Rich and Kyle for participating in this video and showing us how a professional replaces a windshield. Do You Need an Alignment? -EricTheCarGuy

14:31
I had recently done a bunch of suspension work and put new tires on my Acura Vigor. Because of that, I decided to make this video about alignments. I get a lot of questions about when to align a vehicle, especially with my strut replacement videos. I hope this video address those questions. Remember, vibrations aren't normally caused by issues with your alignment. If your vehicle pulls to one side, or you have issues with tire wear, then you likely have an alignment issue. Also remember there can be no play in the suspension when doing an alignment. So if you have loose suspension parts, address those before you do an alignment. If your vehicle has been in a collision, no matter how minor, you might want to have your alignment checked. Lastly, if you're getting new tires, get an alignment to go with them. It's your best investment, might as well protect it. Thanks for watching! Choosing an Automotive Scan Tool -EricTheCarGuy

38:56
I've been asked about what scanner to buy for some time. Since ScannerDanner aka Paul Danner, stopped by the shop, I thought I would take the opportunity to have him help me out with this question. It is his namesake after all. The first step in choosing a scanner is to figure out what it is you really NEED in a scanner. Once you've done that, it's a matter of looking at the spec sheet for the tool you're considering and see if it meets those needs. Look for things like ABS capability, even SRS capabilities, manufacturer specific code capabilities, perhaps a 'help' database, and if the tool is 'bidirectional'. Also, for high end scanners, check out their help and training features that may come with your purchase. I know we used a lot of Snap-on scanners in this video, and we talked extensively on their features, however, there are other scan tool manufactures out there that make equally good tools. Paul and I only like to talk about what we know so sorry if this one seemed Snap-on bias. Also, the retail for the Verus is closer to $6K, not $10K as Paul said in the video. So don't beat us up too bad over that little flub. I'll post some links to some alternative tools that you might also want to check out that have similar capabilities. Here's the links. How To Replace Brake Fluid by Yourself - EricTheCarGuy

15:11
As I said in the video I've been asked about this video for some time and I was happy to get the opportunity to make it. Now that I think about it however I did not address ABS systems in this video however the Subaru used does have ABS. For the most part, you can replace the brake fluid and not have to worry about the ABS, however in some cases you might need to bleed the system with a scan tool in order to get the brakes to work properly. How To Perform a Compression Test - EricTheCarGuy

10:00
Compression Testing and What You Can Learn From It - EricTheCarGuy Here is a video on performing a compression test on an engine to assess it's mechanical condition. An engines ability to compress air and fuel is directly proportional to it's performance since an engine is nothing more than an air compressor once you take away all the controls. A compression test is a good general test that will give you an idea of the engine's overall health but it does not give specific information on what the problem is should there be one, for that a "leak down test" would be required, here is a link to that video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgrfT0LFMhc However if you find yourself looking for the source of a performance problem with an engine, this is a great place to start. This test is often overlooked in favor of looking at the fuel or ignition system, I think that's a mistake, if an engine can't perform mechanically no amount of electronics will make that better. Recently, I hit the 500 subscriber mark and I'd like to thank all of my subscribers past, present, and hopefully in the future for that. How Oil Pressure Works - EricTheCarGuy http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ Here is the second offering from last weeks set of videos. The most important thing to note with this is that oil pressure is not created by the pump but rather the resistance to the outlet flow of that pump and part of that resistance is the clearances between the bearings and the other parts inside the engine. How to Spot and Service a Stuck Rear Caliper - EricTheCarGuy

Visit me at http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ During the used car inspection that I did on my Subaru I found evidence that the rear calipers weren't doing their job so I decided to make this video of how I handled the situation. It's been about a month since I shot this video and even though I didn't machine the rotors they are actually much better than they were, I don't hear any noise and the car stops fine so you may also be able to get away without machining the rotors. --- Click below and Stay Dirty Visit me at EricTheCarGuy.com http://ericthecarguy.com/ Visit EricTheCarGuy Forum http://www.ericthecarguy.com/forum/default.aspx Visit my Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/EricTheCarGuy --- Stay dirty ETCG Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, it cannot guarantee against unauthorized modifications of this information, or improper use of this information.  EricTheCarGuy assumes no liability for property damage or injury incurred as a result of any of the information contained in this video. EricTheCarGuy recommends safe practices when working with power tools, automotive lifts, lifting tools, jack stands, electrical equipment, blunt instruments, chemicals, lubricants, or any other tools or equipment seen or implied in this video.  Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, no information contained in this video shall create any express or implied warranty or guarantee of any particular result.  Any injury, damage or loss that may result from improper use of these tools, equipment, or the information contained in this video is the sole responsibility of the user and not EricTheCarGuy.

HID vs LED vs Halogen Headlights in Projector Housings

11:37
**Before you do any alteration to your vehicles lighting system, make sure it is legal for you to do so in your area. After installation make sure the lights are also aimed properly. About a year ago I did a similar video using reflector housings. At that time many of you commented that you didn't feel that was a good test because it was not conducted in projector housings. That was a great point. Now I'm back with what I feel is a better video conducting the same tests in projector housings. I hope you enjoy it. Electrical Troubleshooting Basics - EricTheCarGuy

Electrical Troubleshooting Basics - EricTheCarGuy I get a lot of questions regarding electrical issues so when this 1994 Geo came in I thought it might be a perfect opportunity to show some of the basic steps that I follow when confronted with an electrical problem. Keep in mind that electrical problems come in all shapes and sizes so there really is no 'magic bullet' here but if you follow a basic procedure like the one shown in this video it might help you find and repair the problem. Why My EricTheCarGuy Channel Got Demonetized

**I will still be posting videos to ETCG1 and also for Premium Members of my website. Here’s what happened. It's all my fault. I decided to leave my MCN, and in doing so, put my channel in a position where it needed to be reviewed before I can monetize my videos again. I've never had this issue in the past, but YouTube is changing, and these are the new rules. It's their sandbox, so I need to play by their rules. That said, I want to thank all those that signed up for my Patreon account. I can't thank you enough for the support. Your actions are beyond awesome, and I won't forget it. If you don't have the means, please don't concern yourself. The only thing I ask is that you watch and enjoy the videos on ETCG and ETCG1. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. The Basic Parts of an Automatic Transmission (Part 1)

28:14
Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ This is part one of my front wheel drive (FWD) automatic transmission dissection video. In this video I cover the operation of clutches, bands, accumulators, clutch drums, the oil pump, the valve body, valves, check balls, seals and 'o' rings, as well as the construction and function of many of the internal hard parts of an automatic transmission. To be honest a rear wheel drive transmission isn't much different as many of the basic components are the same. I guess what I'm saying is that you could use the information in this video to have a basic understanding of a rear wheel drive automatic transmission also. It is just a basic overview of the main components. I don't get into theory and operation so much. Just the general operation and identification of the parts. I may make more videos on this topic based on the comments I get so feel free to ask questions and perhaps I'll answer them in a future video on this topic. There will also be a separate video on the parts and operation of the torque converter as well. When that is posted I'll post links below to that video. Is Redline Good For Your Car's Engine? Italian Tune Up

Does The Italian Tune Up (Redlining Your Engine) Actually Work? EE Shirts! - http://bit.ly/2BHsiuo Recommended Books & Car Products - http://amzn.to/2BrekJm Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 Does a redline a day keep the mechanics away? The Italian Tune Up is often thought of as a solution for removing carbon from an engine, but does it really work? Looking into multiple research papers on the subject, I sought to answer three main questions: 1). What temperatures do carbon deposits form? 2). Can carbon deposits be removed from excessive heat? 3). Can engines get hot enough to remove carbon deposits? An engine's redline is the highest speed it can safely operate. At this engine speed, you'll generally be at higher loads, and the stress and strain on the engine is high. Cylinder temperatures increase with the production of more power, and this heat can have effects on the engine internals. Is it enough to remove carbon deposits? Check out the video to find out! How To Change Power Steering Fluid -EricTheCarGuy

08:57
I've been asked about doing a video on changing out power steering fluid for some time. I've finally put together this video to answer to that request. It's really not that difficult. Figuring out some of the logistics however can be a challenge, but once you get past that it's a pretty straightforward procedure. Just remember to use the correct fluid on your system. If not, it may not operate properly or damage to the power steering system can result.
